Description

Henry et al reported equations for estimating the percent body fat of a Chinese adult from simple body measurements. The authors are from Singapore Institute of Clinical Sciences, National University Health System of Singapore, and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

Patient selection: Chinese adult from 21 to 60 years of age with BMI up to 40 kg per square meter

Parameters:

(1) sex

(2) skinfold over biceps in mm

(3) skinfold over triceps in mm

(4) age in years

(5) height in cm

(6) waist circumference in cm

sum of biceps and triceps

= SUM(skinfold measurements)

percent body fat for female =

= (21.75 * LOG10(sum of skinfolds)) + (0.22 * (waist)) + (0.064 * (age)) - (0.099 * (height)) + 1.46

percent body fat for male =

= (17.81 * LOG10(sum of skinfolds)) + (0.253 * (waist)) + (0.029 * (age)) - (0.152 * (height)) + 7.76
