Description

Hastuti et al used biolectrical impedance to evaluate Indonesian males. The authors are from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Kagawa Nutrition University, Bond University and the University of Tasmania.

Patient selection: males, ages 18 to 65 years

Method of analysis: bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA)

Parameters:

(1) height in centimeters

(2) weight in kilograms

(3) resistance in Ohms

(4) reactance in Ohms

total body water in kilograms =

= (0.213 * (weight)) + (0.327 * ((height)^2) / (resistance)) + (0.055 * (reactance)) + 0.167

percent total body water =

= (-0.512 * (weight)) + (0.407 * ((height)^2) / (resistance)) + 65.627

where:

• Resistance index (RI) = ((height)^2) / (resistance)

• TBW is reported in kilograms rather than liters.
