Description

Fudge et al developed equations for predicting oxygen uptake from heart rate and accelerometer data while walking or running. The authors are from the University of Glasgow and the University of Geneva.


 

Accelerometers used:

(1) 3dNX (triaxial)

(2) CSA model 7164 (MTI accelerometer, uniaxial)

(3) Actigraph GT1M (uniaxial)

(4) ActiHeart (uniaxial)

 

Parameters:

(1) heart rate in beats per minute

(2) output from the accelerometer in counts per minute (CPM)

 

Equations for walking while wearing the 3dNX on the left hip:

 

oxygen uptake in mL per kg per minute =

= (0.244 * (heart rate)) - 5.614

 

oxygen uptake in mL per kg per minute =

= (0.02315 * (CPM)) + 5.258

 

oxygen uptake in mL per kg per minute =

= (0.02027 * (CPM)) + (0.07105 * (heart rate)) + 0.161

 

Equations for running while wearing the 3dNX on the left hip:

 

oxygen uptake in mL per kg per minute =

= (0.321 * (heart rate)) - 6.387

 

oxygen uptake in mL per kg per minute =

= (0.02573 * (CPM)) - 1.014

 

oxygen uptake in mL per kg per minute =

= (0.01942 * (CPM)) + (0.123 * (heart rate)) - 9.371
