Description

Britto et al developed equations for predicting the six minute walking distance (6MWD) in Brazilian adults. The authors are from multiple universities in Brazil.

Patient selection: age >= 18 years, body mass index from 18 to 40 kg per square meter

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) gender (0 if female, 1 if male)

(3) body mass index (BMI) in kg per square meter

(4) height in centimeters

(5) change in heart rate in beats per minute (based on baseline and final heart rates)

predicted distance in meters =

= (0.0345 * ((age)^2)) - (6.11 * (age)) + (48.87 * (points for gender)) - (4.87 * (BMI)) + 890.46

predicted distance in meters =

= (1.704 * (height in cm)) - (2.303 * (age)) + (36.648 * (points for gender)) + (1.365 * (change in heart rate)) + 356.658
