Wabitsch et al reported an equation for total body water in obese pediatric patients. The authors are from the University of Ulm, Children's Hospital Hochried and University Women's Hospital Berne.

Patient selection: obese pediatric patient from 5 to 18 years of age

Parameters:

(2) height in centimeters

(3) resistance at 50 kHz

(4) age in years

= (0.35 * ((height)^2) / (resistance)) + (0.14 * (weight)) + (0.027 * (age)) - 0.12

Performance:

• Mean error before weight loss 1.40 +/- 1.38 liters.
