Voraruth et al used the nasal-tragus length of a Thai neonate to determine the optimal insertion depth of an endotracheal tube. The authors are from Mahidol University in Bangkok.
Patient selection: Thai neonate
Exclusion: facial dysmorphism, facial injury
Optimal insertion depth: a tip to lip distance with the tip at the body of T2 on chest X-ray
Parameters:
(1) nasal-tragus length in cm
optimum insertion depth at T2 in cm =
= (0.903 * (distance)) + 0.897
