Description

Steckelberg et al reported an equation for predicting mean pulmonary artery pressure (MPAP) from peak pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP). Determination of PASP by Doppler echocardiography is noninvasive and avoids the need for right heart catheterization. The authors are from the Mayo Clinic.

Method: peak pulmonary artery systolic pressure by Doppler echocardiography

mean pulmonary artery pressure in mm Hg =

= (0.61 * (PASP)) + 1.95

Performance: R^2 = 0.78 and p < 0.0001

This equation can be particularly helpful in diagnosind and monitoring patients with pulmonary hypertension.

simplified version for MPAP =

= (0.6 * (PASP))
