Description

Rule et al developed a series of equations for estimating the glomerular filtration rate for a patient with chronic kidney disease. One of these was based on age, gender and the serum creatinine concentration. The authors are from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Patient selection: adult

Parameters:

(1) serum creatinine in mg/dL

(2) age in years

(3) gender

Gender

estimated GFR in mL per min per 1.73 square meters BSA =

= 273 * (points for gender) / (((age in years)^0.299) * ((serum creatinine)^1.22))

= 273 * (points for gender) * ((age in years)^(-0.299)) * ((serum creatinine)^(-1.22)))
