Mignano and Konz reported an equation for the surface area of the hand. The authors are from Kansas State University.
Method of measuring surface area: photometric, with hand in a dyed latex glove
Lines of the hand with the fingers extended:
(1) horizontal along the proximal edge of the hand
(2) perpendicular to line 1 to the tip of the middle finger
(3) perpendicular to line 2 through the distal base of the thumb
Parameters:
(1) hand length in cm (from wrist circumference to the tip middle finger along line 2)
hand surface area in square cm =
= (26.5 * (hand length in cm)) - 88.47
