Description

Masuda and Komiya reported an equation for predicting total body water in young Japanese children using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). The authors are from Nakamura-Gakuen Junior College and Kyushu University in Japan.

Patient selection: Japanese child from 3 to 6 years of age

Parameters:

(1) height in centimeters

(2) resistance in ohms at 50 kHz

(3) weight in kilograms

(4) age in years

(5) sex (male 1, female 0)

total body water in kilograms =

= (0.149 * ((height)^2) / (resistance)) + (0.244 * (weight)) + (0.46 * (age)) + (0.501 * (points for sex)) + 1.628

Performance:

• The root mean square error (RMSE) is 0.440 kg.

• The R-squared was 0.946.
