Description

Lanza et al reported an equation for estimating the distance traversed during the Incremental Shuttle Walk Test (ISWT). The authors are from Universidade Nove de Julho in Sao Paulo.

Patient selection: 6 to 18 years

Exclusions: abnormal spirometry, history of chronic disease

Test: 10 meter corridor with 2 cones at endpoints. There were 15 speed levels starting at 0.5 m/s and increased by 0.17 m/s every minute.

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) sex (0 if female, 1 if male)

(3) body mass index (BMI) in kg per square meter

predicted distance in meters =

= (193.265 * (points for sex)) + (47.850 * (age)) - (26.179 * (BMI)) + 845.559
