Jolley et al used a formula to estimate esophageal length in children undergoing esophageal pH monitoring. The

Day et al found that the formula predicted a length less than that seen at endoscopy, indicating that it would place the end of a tube or probe into the distal esophagus 1 - 3 cm above the lower esophageal sphincter (LES).
