Jo et al reported a method for calculating the thoracic aortic pulse wave velocity in children (PWV) using echocardiography. This requires a measurement for the length of the thoracic aorta. The authors are from the University of Rochester in New York.
Patient selection: pediatric patients from 0 to 20 years
Parameters:
(1) height of the patient in centimeters
length of the thoracic aorta in cm =
= (0.1 * (height in cm)) + 1.7
length of the thoracic aorta in meters =
= (length in cm) / 100
