Description

Fjeld et al reported an equation for predicting total body water in pediatric patients using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). The authors are from the University of Chicago and Instituto de Investigacion Nutritional (Lima, Peru).

Patient selection: from 3 to 30 months (weights from 3.4 to 14.4 kg)

Parameters:

(1) height in centimeters

(2) impedance in ohms at 50 kHz

(3) weight in kilograms

total body water in kg =

= (0.18 * ((height)^2) / (impedance)) + (0.39 * (weight)) + 0.76

Performance:

• SEE 0.23 liters

• r = 0.99
