Description

Dodds et al estimated the volume of the gallbladder based on ultrasonographic measurements. The same formula could be used if directly measuring the gallbladder.

Parameters:

(1) length in cm

(2) width in cm

(3) height in cm

volume in mL =

= 0.52 * (length in cm) * (width in cm) * (height in cm)

NOTE: Normally the gallbladder wall is thin (perhaps 1 mm in thickness). In chronic cholecystitis the gallbladder wall may be significantly thickened. In this case there could be a significant difference between the luminal volume and the outer volume of the gallbladder.
