Description

De Backer et al used peak work rate during exercise to estimate the peak oxygen uptake for a pediatric patient with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). This can be useful in situations when the peak VO2 cannot be directly measured. The authors are from Wilhelmina Children's Hospital and University Medical Center Utrecht.

Parameters:

(1) gender score (male = 1, female = 0)

(2) body weight in kilograms

(3) peak work rate in Watts

peak VO2 in liters per minute =

= 0.308 + (0.146 * (points for gender)) + (0.005 * (weight in kg)) + (0.008 * (peak work rate))

Performance:

• R-squared = 0.91. SEE = 0.18 L/min.
