Equation of Daugirdas et al for Estimating the Single-Pool Kt/V at Higher Dialysis Frequencies

Description

Duagirdas et al reported an equation for estimating the single pool Kt/V for a patient having frequent dialysis sessions. The authors are from the University of Illinois, Baxter Healthcare, University of Utah, University of California Davis and NIDDKD at NIH.

Frequency of dialysis: 3, 4 or 6 times per week

Parameters:

(1) ratio of post-dialysis to pre-dialysis serum BUN

(2) GFAC (urea generation term G-factor)

(3) dialysis session length in hours

(4) weight loss

(5) total distribution volume in liters

GFAC = 0.0174 / (preceding interdialytic interval in days)

Kt/V = A - B

A = (4 - (3.5 * R)) * 0.55 * (weight loss) / (volume)

B = LN(R - ((session length) * (GFAC)))
