Description

Bouvet et al developed an equation for estimating the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in pediatric patients. The authors are from Institut Claudius-Regaud and Purpan University Hospital in Toulouse, France.

Patient selection: 1.4 to 22.8 in the entire data set

Molecular weight of cystatin: 13, 359 daltons

Parameters:

(1) serum cystatin C in mg/L

(2) serum creatinine in µmol/L

(3) body weight in kilograms

(4) age in years

GFR in mL per min =

= 63.2 * (((creatinine) / 96) ^ (-0.35)) * (((cystatin C) / 1.2) ^ (-0.56)) * (((weight) / 45) ^ (0.3)) * (((age) / 14) ^ (0.40))

The coefficients can be combined as followed:

63.2 * ((1 / 96) ^ (-0.35)) * ((1 / 1.2) ^ (-0.56)) * ((1 / 45) ^ (0.3)) * ((1 / 14) ^ (0.40)) =

= 63.2 * 0.6077451 =

= 38.4095

This means that

GFR in mL per min =

= 38.4095 * ((creatinine) ^ (-0.35)) * ((cystatin C) ^ (-0.56)) * ((weight) ^ (0.3)) * ((age) ^ (0.40))
