Description

Davies and Gregory reported an equation for predicting total body water in adult Indian males using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). The authors are St. John's National Academy of Health Sciences in Bangalore, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and the National Institute of Nutrition in Rome.

Patient selection: adult Indian males

Parameters:

(1) height in centimeters

(2) impedance in ohms

(3) body weight in kilograms

total body water in kg =

= (0.533 * (body weight)) + 3.77

total body water in kg =

= (0.568 * (body weight)) - (0.04 * ((height)^2) / (impedance)) + 4.35

Performance:

• SEE for weight only equation: 2.4 kg

• SEE for impedance equation: 1.9 kg
