Description

Aglago et al reported an equation for estimated the total body water (TBW) of a North African adult. The authors are from Ibn Tofail University and Children's Hospital in Rabat, Morocco.

Patient selection: age from 18 to 64 years

Methods of analysis for body water: D2O (deuterium oxide)

Parameters:

(1) height in centimeters

(2) resistance in Ohms from bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA)

(3) sex (male 1, female 0)

(4) weight in kilograms

(5) age in years

total body water in liters =

= (0.267 * ((height)^2) / (resistance)) + (4.42 * (points for sex)) + (0.225 * (weight)) - (0.052 * (age)) + 5.68
