Description

Mainie et al provided guidance for endotracheal tube (ETT) placement in neonates. This can more accurately place the tip of the tube. The authors are from Royal London Hospital and Barts and the London NHS Trust


Patient selection: neonate requiring emergency interhospital transfer.

 

Measurement: length of the endotracheal tube (ETT) insertion from the lips

 

Goal: tip between T1 or T2

 

Parameters:

(1) adjusted gestational age in weeks

 

ETT length in cm =

= (0.177 * (corrected gestation)) + 1.55
