Description

Endomyometriosis is a variant of endometriosis which shows the presence of smooth muscle.


Clinical features:

(1) incidental or associated with pain

(2) small mass with blood-filled lumen

(3) histology shows layers of concentric smooth muscle with endometrial glands and stroma

 

Its very rare occurrence in males has been linked to metaplasia associated with an estrogenic state (estrogen therapy for prostate cancer, cirrhosis).

 

Differential diagnosis:

(1) teratoma

(2) well-differentiated carcinosarcoma
