Description

Therapy with an immune checkpoint inhibitor may be complicated by one or more endocrinopathies. An endocrinopathy may be overlooked if the patient is not screened.


Endocrinopathies reported after therapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors:

(1) hypophysitis with or without diabetes insipidus

(2) hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism

(3) adrenalitis with adrenal insufficiency

(4) diabetes mellitus

 

The endocrinopathies often are mild and the patients may be asymptomatic.

 

Risk factors for more serious reactions:

(1) combination of two or more immune checkpoint inhibitors

(2) higher number of doses
