The END in NICU (Early Neonatal Death in NICU) score can help to predict mortality for early neonatal death in the NICU. The authors are from University of Gondar and Bahir Dar Universtiy in Ethiopia.
Patient selection: neonate in the NICU
Outcome early death (death within 7 days of delivery)
Parameters:
(1) birth APGAR score
(2) perinatal asphyxia
(3) mode of delivery
(4) respiratory distress syndrome
(5) birth weight in grams
(6) gestational age in weeks
(7) sepsis

total score =
= SUM(points for all of the parameters)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 25 (the paper says 29. This is the sum of all the assigned points but that is inappropriate.)
• The higher the score the greater the risk of early neonatal mortality.
