A patient with chronic fatigue syndrome (myalgic encephalomyelitis) may show increases in serum lactate concentrations.
Patient selection: chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS, myalgic encephalomyelitis)
Occurrence of elevated serum lactate:
(1) greater than expected after exercise
(2) at rest
Criteria for elevated lactate at rest: at least 1 measurement >= 2 mmol/L
A patient with CFS and elevated serum lactate tends to have more severe post-exertional malaise (PEM).
