Butta et al identified changes in the electrocardiogram associated with prognosis for a patient with acute myocarditis. The authors are from University of Messina and Cardiocentro Ticono in Lugano.
Patient selection: acute myocarditis
ECG changes associated with a worse prognosis:
(1) pathological Q waves
(2) wide QRS complex
(3) QRS/T angle >= 100 degrees
(4) prolonged QT interval
(5) high degree atrioventricular block
(6) malignant ventricular tachyarrhythmia
ECG changes associated with a better prognosis:
(1) ST elevation with typical early repolarization pattern
