Risk factors for injury:

(1) inexperience

(2) mechanical or electrical problem

(3) intoxication

(4) fooling around

(5) road surface defect (hole, crack, rock, etc)

(6) collision with car or structure

(7) being struck by a moving object

(8) inclement weather

(9) age less than 18 years

(10) not wearing a helmet

 

Injuries:

(1) torn tendon

(2) intracranial injury (concussion, subdural hemorrhage, etc)

(3) fractures (limb, ribs, vertebrae)

(4) penetrating injury

(5) facial trauma

(6) blunt trauma to torso

(7) joint dislocation or sprain

 

Risk mitigation:

(1) training

(2) wearing a helmet
