Description

Backes et al reported the ELAPSS score for predicting growth of an incidental intracranial aneurysm. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from an intervention to reduce risk. The authors are from multiple institutions from Europe, Japan, Hong Kong and Canada.

Patient selection: incidental intracranial aneurysm, member of study population group

Outcome: 3-year or 5-year risk of aneurysm growth

Parameters:

(1) early SAH (E)

(2) location (L)

(3) age (A)

(4) population (P)

(5) size of aneurysm in mm (S)

(6) shape of the aneurysm (S)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: around 49 (depends on age)

• The higher the score the greater the risk of aneurysm growth.
