The anatomy of a stenotic mitral valve can be determined using echocardiography. Cormier et al graded these changes.
Patient selection: mitral stenosis
(1) calcification of the leaflet(s)
(2) subvalvular disease
none (pliable anterior leaflet)
mild (not thickened, >= 10 mm long)
severe (thickened chordae < 10 mm long)
Grade 3 morphology is unfavorable for mitral valve commissurotomy.
