Description

Lahti et al reported findings associated with mortality when found in the ECG of a patient with an ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Tampere University and Kanta-Hame Central Hospital in Finland.

Patient selection: ST-segment AMI

Predictors:

(1) heart rate > 100 beats per minute (HR 2.3)

(2) atrial fibrillation or flutter (HR 1.9)

(3) left bundle branch block (HR 2.6)

(4) non-specific intraventricular conduction delay (NIVCD, HR 1.9)

The risk of mortality increases as the number of risk factors increase.
