Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) can affect a patient's ECG during and after chemotherapy.
Possible mechanism: may affect the venticular action potential
ECG changes may include:
(1) sinus bradycardia
(2) QTc prolongation with or without Torsade de pointe
(3) atrial fibrillation
(4) ventricular tachycardia
(5) atrioventricular block
(6) ischemia and infarction
Other cardiac problems associated with TKI:
(1) hypertension
(2) left ventricular dysfunction
(3) chronic heart failure
Risk factors:
(1) pre-existing conditions or medications that prolong the QTc
(2) prior coronary artery disease
(3) history of anthracycline therapy
(4) heart failure
(5) diabetes
