Easily Ignitible Fibers or Flyings

The presence of easily ignitible material raises the risk of fire if an ignition source is present.

Easily ignitible fibers or flyings:

(1) cotton linters or waste

(2) sisal (fibers from an agave)

(3) henequen (fibers from an agave)

(4) istle (fiber from agave and other plants)

(5) jute

(6) hemp

(7) tow

(8) cocoa fiber

(9) oakum (loose fibers from old rope)

(10) baled waste kapok

(11) Spanish moss

(12) excelsior (softwood shavings used for packing)

(13) sawdust

(14) woodchips

where:

• Flyings appear to refer to material that flies off during processing.

Factors reducing the risk:

(1) wet

(2) presence of a noncombustible coating

(3) atmosphere oxygen poor or with a suppressant
