Description

Colorectal carcinoma typically affects adults over the age of 50 years. Some patients may develop a colorectal carcinoma at an earlier age, with some below 40 years.


Features of early-onset colorectal cancer:

(1) poorly differentiated with aggressive behavior

(2) more often left-sided or rectal

 

Predictors for early-onset colorectal cancer:

(1) family history of colorectal cancer

(2) ethnic background

(3) hereditary syndrome associated with colorectal cancer

(4) inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

(5) comorbidities (obesity, smoking, diabetes)
