Description

Microfilaria often reside in lymphatics of the genital region in a male with filariasis. These may trigger a number of reactions prior to the late sequelae such as elephantiasis.

Findings affecting the lymphatics in a male with filariasis:

(1) lymphangiectasia of lymphatics around the vas deferens

(2) hydrocele

(3) chylocele, with chyle leaking into a filarial hydrocele

(4) superficial lymphangiomatosis

(5) lymph scrotum with chyle oozing from superficial lymphatics

(6) lymphadenitis of inguinal lymph nodes
