Duplication of the vas deferens is a rare congenital anomaly.
The duplication may be:
(1) unilateral or bilateral
(2) partial or complete
On Doppler ultrasonography there are tubular structures without blood flow.
Significance:
(1) increased risk of damage to a vas during inguinal hernia repair
(2) vasectomy failure unless both vasa treated
(3) may influence varicocelectomy
(4) may be a clue to other congenital anomalies in the genitourinary tract
Differential diagnosis:
(1) double-looped epididymis and vas deferens in cryptorchidism
