Latanoprost (Xalatan) Ophthalmic therapy for glaucoma may be associated with dry eye or ocular infection.
Latanaprost is a prostaglandin analogue used in the treatment of glaucoma. It decreases vitreous fluid.
In mice latanoprost was associated with inflammation, with increased CD4+ T cells, production of interferon-gamma and interleukin-17A.
Ocular surface symptoms of dry eye:
(1) dry eye
(2) itchiness
(3) stinging
Risk factors for dry eye:
(1) multiple glaucoma medications (>= 3)
Risk factors for infection:
(1) contamination of solution
