Description

Many drugs may cause or contribute to retarded ejaculation (impaired ejaculation, male orgasmic disorder).


 

Drugs that may be associated with retarded ejaculation:

(1) alcohol

(2) alpha blockers

(3) antiadrenergic agent (guanethidine, others)

(4) anticholinergic agents

(5) anti-psychotic agents (haloperidol, phenothiazines, other neuroleptics)

(6) baclofen

(7) benzodiazepines

(8) beta blockers

(9) epsilon aminocaproic acid

(10) isotretinoin (Accutane)

(11) monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)

(12) naproxen

(13) opiates

(14) selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)

(15) thiazide diuretics

(16) trazodone

(17) tricyclic antidepressants

 

Features:

(1) onset of impaired ejaculation after starting the drug or increasing the dose

(2) improvement on discontinuation of the drug or reducing the dose

 

Limitations:

• Some agents like alcohol may impact sexual function in several ways, some of which may not be readily reversible.
