Description

A number of drugs and toxins can cause pericarditis by a range of mechanisms


Categories:

(1) drug-induced lupus erythematosus (procainamide, hydantoin, hydralazine, methyldopa, isoniazid, reserpine, mesalazine, tocainamide)

(2) hypersensitivity reaction (penicillin, tryptophan, cromolyn sodium)

(3) idiosyncratic immune reaction (see below)

(4) anthracycline derivative (doxorubicin, daunorubicin)

(5) serum sickness (foreign antisera, blood products)

(6) venom (scorpion fish sting)

(7) foreign substance applied to pericardium (talc, silicone, asbestos, tetracycline)

(8) hemorrhage associated with anticoagulation or thrombolysis

(9) polymer fume fever associated with burning polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon)

(3) practolol

(4) bromocriptine

(5) psicofuraninie)

(6) cytarabine

(7) phenylbutazone

(8) amiodarone

(9) streptokinase

(10) p-aminosalicylic acid

(11) thiazides

(12) streptomycin

(13) thiouracils

(14) sulfa drugs

(15) cyclophosphamide

(16) cyclosporine

(17) mesalazine

(18) 5-fluorouracil

(19) vaccines (Yellow fever, smallpox)

(20) GM-CSF

(21) anti-TNF agents
