Description

Aziz et al reviewed drug-induced disorders of the tongue. Some drugs cause ulceration of the tongue. The authors are from Academic Center for Dentistry Amsterdam, University of Amsterdam, Royal Dutch Pharmacists and University of Groningen in The Netherlands.


Drugs associated with tongue ulceration include:

(1) alemtuzumab

(2) nicorandil

(3) melatonin

(4) sertaline

 

The diagnosis involves:

(1) appearance of the ulcer after starting the drug

(2) resolution of the ulcer after drug discontinuation

(3) exclusion of other causes of tongue ulceration (trauma, cancer, syphilis, etc)
