Description

A large number of drugs may be associated with arthritis.


Possible mechanisms for the joint symptoms:

(1) drug-induced autoimmune disease (lupus, scleroderma, other)

(2) drug-induced gout

(3) serum sickness

(4) drug allergy

(5) hemarthrosis

(6) osteoporosis or osteomalacia

(7) myopathy

(8) aggravation or precipitation of a pre-existing rheumatic disease

(9) post-chemotherapy, including immune checkpoint inhibitors

(10) immunosuppression

(11) other

 

When evaluating a patient with new or worsening arthritis, it is recommended to review the medications that the patient is taking
