Description

Driving while intoxicated can be dangerous for everyone on the road.


 

 

Drugs involved may include:

(1) marijuana

(2) cocaine

(3) methamphetamine, amphetamine or other stimulant

(4) opiates

(5) benzodiazepines

(6) barbiturates

(7) designer drug

 

Factors in addition to intoxication:

(1) drowsy or falling asleep (may be an issue from partying late or direct medication effect)

(2) impaired judgment

(3) impaired perceptions and vision

(4) impaired reaction times

(5) distraction

(6) concurrent alcohol use

(7) concurrent illness

 

When testing a driver it is important to distinguish intoxication and impairment from residual drug in the system. Evidence of impairment is important to document as well as the concentration of all intoxicants present.
