The dose of an enteric-coated pancrealipase preparation depends on the age of the patient and the dietary fat load. Usually an initial dose is selected and then this is titrated until the optimum dose is determined.

Alternatively, a patient can be dosed based on dietary fat intake. Patients with cystic fibrosis require 500 to 4,000 (usually 1,800-2,000)units of lipase per gram dietary fat per day. Doses above 4,000 units per gram of dietary fat should be avoided to prevent overdosing.
