Description

Saturated Solution of Potassium Iodide (SSKI) can be used to treat a variety of disorders including sporotrichosis and inflammatory dermatoses. A dose is better tolerated if it is diluted prior to ingestion.

Molecular weight of potassium iodide: 166 grams (potassium 39.098, iodide 126.904)

A saturated solution of SSKI contains 1 g/mL (about 6 M).

This is prepared by adding the salt to hot purified water.

The dose in drops depends on the number of drops per mL.

If there are 21 drops per mL then 1 drop contains about 47 mg.

If a drop contains a certain number of milligrams, then the number of drops per mL is (1000) / (mg per drop)

dose in mg per drop =

= (1000 mg) / (drops per mL)

number of drops to give =

= (dose in mg) / (dose in mg per drop)
