Description

Dissecting cellulitis of the scalpe (DCS) is an uncommon chronic inflammatory condition of the scalp. Tran et al reported its clinical features. The authors are from Tulane University.


Clinical features of dissecting cellulitis of the scalp:

(1) a chronic inflammatory condition

(2) suppurative nodules with draining sinuses

(3) scarring of the scalp

(4) the patient may have another condition with follicular occlusion (acne conglobata, hidradenitis suppurative, pilonidal sinus)

(5) it is more common in males

 

Risk factors:

(1) current smoking (OR 6.5)
