Ulefsia Lotion (Sciele Pharma) can be used as topical treatment of head lice. The lotion causes lice to asphyxiate. It is not ovicidal.
Active ingredient: 5% benzyl alcohol
The lotion is distributed in 8 ounce bottles.
Number of treatments: 2, done 1 week apart
The dose for each treatment depends on the length of the patient's hair.

Instructions:
(1) Apply to dry hair.
(2) Use enough of the lotion to completely saturate the scalp and hair.
(3) Let sit for 10 minutes.
(4) Rinse the hair and scalp with water after 10 minutes.
The treatment is contraindicated for neonates and infants less than 6 months of age (related to the gasping syndrome).
