Description

Gasoline is a flammable and toxic chemical. If handled improperly it can cause severe burns or toxic injury.

Prevention goals:

(1) chemical exposure

(2) fire

(3) environmental spill

Chemical exposure:

(1) Do not siphon by mouth.

(2) Do not splash in face or eyes.

(3) Avoid environments with high vapor levels (poor ventilation, closed and hot environments).

(4) Remove soaked clothing.

Transport container:

(1) Use only approved containers with tight seal and stable base. Unapproved containers may leak or even dissolve.

(2) Fill with the container on the ground and stable.

(3) The nozzle should be in contact while filling.

(4) Do not fill with container in car or vehicle.

Avoid sparks or flames while handling:

(1) Pagers or cell phones can cause an electrical spark.

(2) Static electricity can be discharged when entering or leaving a vehicle.

(3) Smoking and open flames are bad ideas.

(4) An overheated engine or electrical wiring can ignite vapors.

Vehicle:

(1) The gas tank should be closed with a proper gas tank cap.

(2) The gas tank should not be leaking (from puncture, rust or other cause).

(3) Do not leave a dispensing nozzle in automatic mode unattended.

(4) Do not try to overfill a gas tank.

Disposal:

(1) Old gasoline should not be poured into the environment.

(2) Large spills should be contained and absorbed
