Description

van Dijk et al developed a discriminant function for identifying pulmonary hypertension in a child with congenital heart disease who is on a mechanical ventilator. This is a noninvasive method that uses data from Doppler flow velocity characteristics. The authors are from University Nijmegen in The Netherlands.

Parameters:

(1) maximal deceleration in m per second squared

(2) mean acceleration in m per second squared

(3) preejection period corrected for heart rate = preejection period divided by the SQRT(RR interval) in millseconds^(-0.5)

DF =

= 3.79 + (0.24 * (maximal deceleration)) - (0.38 * (mean acceleration)) + (0.58 * (preejection period divided by SQRT of the RR interval))

Performance:

• The positive predictive value was reported as 92% and negative predictive value 90%.

If data from Table 8 is entered into the equation as written, then the results make no sense. A typographical error is suspected.
