The dumping system may affect patients following gastric surgery or with a variety of gastrointestinal disorders. In more severe cases this can result in disability for the patient.
Complications:
(1) fear of eating (and the subsequent diarrhea)
(2) weight loss
(3) embarrassment
(4) work impairment
(5) limitations on travel and outdoor activities (because of the need to be near a bathroom)
(6) limitations in social activities
These complications can be measured using a Likert scale as follows.
