Description

A count using one microscope can be used to estimate the count on a different microscope if the microscopic parameters are known. The count can also be converted to a number per square mm.

Example: number of mitoses, number of microscopic organisms

Parameters:

(1) area to adjust to in square mm

(2) count in area counted

(3) area of microscopic field of view in square mm

(4) number of microscopic fields counted

original area counted =

= (area of microscopic field of view) * (number of fields counted)

estimated count for new area =

= (area to estimate for in square mm) * (original count in known area) / (original area counted in square mm)

count for each microscopic field in new area =

= (estimated count for new area) / (number of fields counted)

To express the count in number per square mm:

count per square mm =

= (count in original area) / (area counted in square mm) =

= (count in original area) / ((number of fields counted) * (area per field))
