Description

The digit index for the third finger compares the third finger length to the total hand length.

Parameters:

(1) length of the third finger in mm (as measured from the midpoint of the proximal digital crease to the end of the finger)

(2) length of the hand in mm (hand length equals the palmar length plus the length of the third finger, with the palmar length from the midpoint of the distal wrist crease to the midpoint of the proximal digital crease)

digit index =

= (length of the third digit in mm) * 100 / (hand length in cm)

In a Turkish population the ratio was 45 +/- 1.8.
